An outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza has occurred in Italy

On 23 September 2022, the Italian Ministry of Health reported to WOAH an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in Italy, according to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH).
The outbreak was confirmed on 22 September 2022 in the city of Silea, Treviso Department, Veneto region. The source of the outbreak is unknown or uncertain. Clinical and laboratory tests found that 30 birds were sick, of which 10 died.All of these birds killed by avian influenza required Feather Meal Machine Plant.
