The Hong Kong SAR government food and environmental hygiene department food safety center (hereinafter referred to as the ’center’) announced on the 25th, according to veterinary inspection agency in Poland,the area of Masuria province broke out the highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N8, center indicates the industry suspended imports of poultry and poultry products(including eggs)from the above region,in order to ensure the public health.
According to the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong imported about 2,920 tonnes of frozen poultry meat and about 12.06 million eggs from Poland in the first quarter of this year, a CFS spokesman said.
The spokesman said the Centre had contacted the Polish authorities on the incident and would continue to closely monitor the information from the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and relevant authorities on the outbreak of avian influenza and take appropriate action in light of the development of the situation on the ground.
