More than a million chickens in the United States face being culled in a new outbreak of bird flu

An outbreak of bird flu has been detected at a commercial farm in the US state of Iowa, state agriculture officials said on October 31 local time, CCTV News reported.
This is the first case of bird flu on a commercial farm since a severe outbreak in Iowa in April.
The outbreak affected about 1.1 million laying hens. Because bird flu is highly contagious, birds on all affected farms have to be culled. Then rendering treatment should be carried out to avoid secondary infection.
More than 13.3 million birds have been culled in Iowa so far this year. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says 43 states have reported bird flu outbreaks this year, affecting more than 47.7 million birds.3
