According to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), on May 24, 2022, the Ministry of Land, Agriculture, Water Resources and Rural Resettlement of Zimbabwe notified OIE that there was an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Zimbabwe.
The outbreak occurred in Guruf District and Centenary District in Mashonaland Central Province, which was confirmed on May 23, 2022. The source of the outbreak is unknown or uncertain. According to clinical and laboratory tests, 12,561 cattle were suspected to be infected, of which 642 were sick.
The outbreak is still ongoing, and the Zimbabwe Ministry of Land, Agriculture, Water Resources and Rural Resettlement will submit weekly follow-up reports.
