According to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), on 2 August 2021, the Ministry of Agriculture of Togo notified OIE of an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in Togo.
The outbreak occurred in The Coastal Bay Province and was confirmed on July 30, 2021. The source of the outbreak is unknown or uncertain. Clinical, postmortem and laboratory tests found that 1,590 birds were suspected to be infected, 129 became ill and died, and 1,461 were killed and disposed of.
