According to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), the Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture and Food has reported to WOAH an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 in Bulgaria.
The outbreak occurred in Brezovo Municipality of Plovdiv Oblast. The source of the outbreak is unknown or uncertain. Laboratory tests found that 17,750 birds were suspected to be infected, of which 60 became ill, and 17,750 were killed and disposed of harmlessly
