In the autumn of 2025, the avian influenza epidemic in Europe presented a severe situation of “early onset and wide spread”.
Eleven countries including Germany, France and Belgium successively reported dozens of cases of highly pathogenic H5N1.
In Germany, over 500,000 chickens, ducks and geese were culled, and the death toll of wild cranes in the wild exceeded 1,500.
In the Americas, an outbreak occurred in a large egg-laying chicken farm in Washington State, USA, resulting in the culling of 2 million poultry.
In Minnesota, 15 commercial poultry flocks were infected with the avian influenza virus, and the turkey inventory dropped to the lowest level in 20 years.
Outbreaks were also reported in Quebec, Canada and Mexico.
The Pan American Health Organization issued a warning that 19 countries in the Americas had reported over 5,000 cases of avian influenza.
