China’s demand for chicken feet is an asset for US chicken producers, who have been shipping large quantities of chicken feet to China since the market was reopened for US poultry exports in November 2019.
The export volume of chicken feet to China has exceeded expectations, more than three times that of 2014. China previously banned the import of US chicken meat, but the ban was lifted in 2019. The value of chicken feet exports is about six times that of 2014.
In the first five months of this year, the total amount of chicken feet exported was slightly more than 105,000 metric tons, with a total value of nearly 254 million US dollars. In the first five months of 2014, exports totaled approximately 31,000 metric tons, valued at US$39 million.
If the current trend continues, the US will set another record for the value of chicken feet exports to China in 2021.
